What Percentage Should Hydrogen Peroxide Be?

Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound that is made up of two parts of hydrogen and oxygen atoms respectively. It has a chemical formula H2O2. In its true form, it is a pale liquid that is blue in color.

It is used as an oxidizer, bleaching powder as well as an antiseptic. Hydrogen peroxide in high concentration is used as a propellant in rocketry. It has such high applications because of the nature of the peroxide bond which is highly unstable in nature.

Hydrogen peroxide in 6-10% concentration is considered ideal as hair bleach and is widely used in the cosmetics and beauty industry. Hydrogen peroxide in the concentration of 35% is considered as food-grade hydrogen peroxide. When consumed in large amounts, it can cause tissue burns. Food grade hydrogen peroxide is used as an alternative therapy for arthritis, HIV, diabetes, among many more. 

Hydrogen peroxide 50% is only sold for industrial purposes. It is high in concentration and is recommended for sanitization. Hydrogen peroxide 50 percent uses involve bleaching in the laundry and as a disinfectant. Hydrogen peroxide in such high concentrations is hazardous if not handled carefully. It has been known to cause severe skin burns and eye damage. Not only this, but it also has the ability to corrode metals. It even acts as a catalyst to fire so it is recommended to store away from fire or any combustible materials.
